[KBA-79067] Network access still active for local accounts when the option "Block Remote Desktop" is re-enabled in the Streamvault Control Panel

This article explains why local accounts keep the network access to the Streamvault machine when the option Block Remote Desktop has been deactivated and later reactivated in SV Control Panel 2.7.4.0 and later.

Symptoms

The Block Remote Desktop option is ON by default in the SV Control Panel, denying network access from the Local accounts and the Guest account. This also deactivates the Remote Desktop access in Windows.

When the Block Remote Desktop option is deactivated, the Local accounts are removed from the Deny access to this computer from the network configuration of the Windows Group Policy, allowing network access and the Remote Desktop option is turned on.

When the option is reactivated, the Windows Remote Desktop option is turned OFF, but the local accounts are not added back to the local Deny access to this computer from the network policy.

Cause

A coding issue.

Workaround

  1. Enable Block Remote Desktop in the SV Control Panel.

  2. Open the Local Group Policy Editor in Windows and head to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User > Rights Assignment.

  3. Double click on Deny access to this computer from the network and click on Add User or Group. Type local in the field then click on Check Names.

  4. In the results, select Local account and then click Ok. Click Ok again in the Select Users or Groups window.
