If, after two minutes, the Sharp Discovery Tool has not detected your camera, there are steps you can follow to help you troubleshoot the issue.
Procedure
- Ensure that the camera is powered on.
-
Ensure that the camera's network cable is connected.
Tip: Use the switch or network port lights to verify that an Ethernet link is established.
- Ensure that the camera is supported by the Sharp Discovery Tool.
- Ensure that the computer network card is on the same subnet as the camera.
-
If you know the hostname or the camera's IP address, try to ping the camera.
Use the command prompt:
ping {Hostname or IP}
-
Ensure that your firewalls (typically on the PC running the Sharp Discovery Tool) allow the Genetec Production Discovery UDP protocol.
NOTE:
- The target port is 2728, UDP clients have outbound ports ranging between approximately 55000 and 57000.
- Windows often comes with built-in firewalls, but separate firewall software can also be included in network equipment.
- Isolate the camera in a closed environment. If required, connect the camera directly to the computer using a local DHCP.
