When installing cameras for use with the Flexreader™ plugin, license plates should appear with good contrast in the images and the noise level in the images should be low.
To achieve a clear license plate image, there must be sufficient lighting to illuminate the license plate detection area and the camera must have sufficient sensitivity. If you are installing cameras outdoors or in areas where the lighting is dim or inconsistent, we recommend that you use cameras with integrated illuminators that allow good contrast in captured images. Alternatively, you can install external lighting to illuminate the detection area.
NOTE: The IR illuminators that are integrated into many IP cameras are designed to illuminate a
wide field of view and might not be appropriate for focusing light on the license plate target
area.
