By default, the SharpZ3 base unit and modules communicate using their default static IP addresses and no configuration is required.

Static IP addresses

The following default static IP addresses are assigned to the SharpZ3 base unit, ALPR module, and expansion modules.

Module Default static IP address
ALPR module ports 1 and 2 192.168.10.1
ALPR module ports 3 and 4 192.168.10.2
EXP 1 192.168.10.30
EXP 2 192.168.10.40
EXP 3 192.168.10.50

If there are no specific IP address range requirements for the installation, no configuration is required. If the system must use IP addresses within a specific range, you can assign them manually.

IMPORTANT:
  • When assigning specific IP addresses, ensure the configuration stays compatible with the rest of the system, otherwise the base unit, expansion modules, or aux cameras might be unreachable. For example, it is important that all components be on the same subnet.
  • If you change the static address of the ALPR module, it may invalidate its security certificate and could require replacement; communications might be blocked in the interim.
  • You must use a fixed IP address if you want to stream video to the Security Center Archiver role. You can do this using a static IP address or a reserved IP address on the DHCP server.

DHCP

If the patrol vehicle uses a DHCP server, you can configure the SharpZ3 system for DHCP. Consider the following:
  • When a SharpZ3 system is configured to use DHCP, the setting applies to the ALPR module, but does not apply to expansion modules. Expansion modules connected to the base unit always use static IP addresses that are defined on the Network page. For the expansion modules to work with the DHCP system, you must configure a compatible Subnet mask and IP address for each module.
  • When a SharpZ3 is configured in DHCP and the DHCP server cannot be reached, the default fall-back IPv4 address is 192.168.10.100. On a four-camera ALPR module, the second group of two cameras has a default fall-back address of 192.168.10.100.
NOTE: The default fallback takes at least two minutes to become effective when no DHCP server is detected at bootup.
