Depending on what type of SharpZ3 camera installation you are configuring, license plate reads can be sent to, Genetec Patroller™, or to an FTP or HTTP server.

What you should know

  • The default extension depends on the hardware you are installing. For example, if you log on to the Sharp Portal for a SharpZ3, the default extension is Patroller.
  • For FTP and HTTP extensions, plate reads and images are automatically stored if the connection is lost, however, you can disable edge storage using the Retain data when the connection is lost setting in the extension configuration. To reduce cellular data usage, you can also configure whether the ALPR and context images are exported.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Sharp Portal.
  2. From the Configuration menu, click Connectivity > Extension.
  3. From the Extension type menu, select one of the following:
    FTP
Use this option to send ALPR data to an FTP server. You can configure the FTP XML template which can be integrated by third-party applications. For more information, see Configuring the SharpZ3 FTP extension in the SharpOS 13.7 Sharp Portal.
    HTTP/HTTPS
Use this option to send ALPR data to an HTTP server. You can configure the system to send the data in XML or JSON format. For more information and examples of the exported XML and JSON files, see Configuring the SharpZ3 HTTP/HTTPS extension in the SharpOS 13.7 Sharp Portal.
    Patroller
Sends ALPR data to Patroller. Configure the following:
    Discovery port
Port on which the SharpZ3 listens for discovery requests. This port number must match the discovery port entered on the Genetec Patroller™ Config Tool Cameras page.
    Security Center (LPM protocol)
By default, LPM protocol is not an available extension. When a SharpZ3 is manually added to the ALPR Manager, the LPM protocol is automatically selected as the unit’s extension type.
NOTE: A SharpZ3 unit can connect to Security Center in deployment scenarios where Patroller is not installed in the vehicle.
    Security Center (Legacy)
Use this option to send ALPR data to the ALPR Manager if connecting to Security Center 5.7 or earlier.
NOTE: If the unit connects to Security Center using the LPM protocol, this option is replaced by Security Center (LPM protocol).
This unit manages the connection to Security Center
Use this only if the autodiscovery of the connected SharpZ3 does not work or if you cannot manually add the SharpZ3 to the ALPR Manager. You must enter the Server address and Port of the server running the ALPR Manager role. For example, if a SharpZ3 is connected to a WiFi router, and the camera’s IP address is then changed, the ALPR Manager cannot detect the change automatically, so you can use this to reconnect to the Security Center computer.
    IMPORTANT:
    • When using this option, no failover is available if the server connection is lost.
    • Avoid the following configuration situations. Correcting these situations requires either assistance from AutoVu Support or the deletion and recreation of the ALPR Manager role:
      • Establishing a connection using This unit manages the connection to Security Center, then clearing the checkbox and saving again.
      • Adding the unit from Config Tool, establishing a connection, and then selecting This unit manages the connection to Security Center, and saving.
    Discovery port
Port on which the SharpZ3 listens for discovery requests. This port number must match the discovery port entered on the ALPR Manager Properties page.
NOTE: When setting the discovery port, do not use port 5050 as it is reserved for the logger service.
    Control port
Used in Security Center Config Tool when creating a new ALPR unit (SharpZ3) manually.
  4. Click Save.
