To capture license plates in a variety of lighting conditions, the SharpZ3 camera unit's two ALPR cameras use different exposure levels. If the
default settings do not produce acceptable results, you can adjust the exposure
settings.
Before you begin
-
To set custom exposure levels, the Position and
orientation option must be disabled on the page.
What you should know
- You must perform the adjustments in low light levels.
- For the calibration, you will need one of each plate type that you want the system
to read, for example, reflective, non-reflective, embossed, or flat plates, as well
as plates from neighboring regions.
Procedure
To verify that you need to make an exposure adjustment
-
From the Dashboard menu, select Camera
feeds.
-
From the Camera unit menu, select
the ALPR camera unit you want to test.
-
From the Cameras menu, select ALPR 1 + ALPR
2.
Notice that one ALPR camera feed is darker than the other due to the different
exposure settings assigned to each camera. In the following steps, you will be able
to increase or decrease the difference in the exposure settings.
-
From the Overlays menu, select Bounding
box.
-
Verify that you need to make an exposure adjustment.
-
In low-light conditions, place a stationary license plate as close to the
camera as possible while still being within range for the camera to capture
plate reads.
-
Repeat the verification step for each plate type you want the system to
identify.
To adjust the camera exposure settings
-
From the Configuration menu,
click .
-
From the Exposure menu, click
Manual.
NOTE: The ALPR 1 video feed is displayed.
-
Slightly increase or decrease the Gain and click
Save.
NOTE: The Gain increases or decreases the difference between
the exposure levels of the two ALPR cameras in the SharpZ3
camera unit.
-
Go back to the Camera feeds page and retest the plate that
previously did not have a yellow box.
-
If required, continue to adjust the Gain value until all
license plate types are detected.
After you finish
- Configure the same Gain for each SharpZ3 camera unit.
- Modifying the exposure settings can greatly impact ALPR performance. Test the new
settings in both day and night conditions.
