There are many tasks involved in deploying a SharpZ3 system for city parking enforcement. Use this overview as a reference to guide you through the process.

Preparing for the deployment

These are the tasks to perform before you go on site for the deployment. If you cannot complete the tasks on this checklist, contact your AutoVu™ representative.

Step Task Description Where to find more information
1 Fill out the AutoVu™ Deployment Questionnaire. The questionnaire helps you collect the information required to deploy the system.
2 Read the product related release notes. The release notes contain information about the current releases, as well as any known issues or limitations.
3 Install Security Center. Security Center receives reads from Genetec Patroller™ software.
4 Install BeNomad maps. BeNomad provides the SharpZ3 system with maps and reverse geocoding information.
5 Install Pay-by-Plate Sync. If Pay-by-Plate Sync is being used to consolidate multiple third-party license plate-enabled parking (LEP) systems, install the Pay-by-Plate Sync plugin on the Security Center server.
6 Configure the ALPR Manager role in Security Center. The ALPR Manager is the role that manages and controls the patrol vehicles running Genetec Patroller™ software.
7 Configure the Archiver role in Security Center. The Archiver is the role that stores video streams and ALPR images.
8 Configure permits in Security Center. A permit defines a single parking permit holder list.
9 Configure parking lots. You must configure an enforcement area (or parking lot) for each enforcement rule (permit, or overtime rule) that you create.
10 (Optional) Configure hotlists. To use hotlist entities in Security Center, you must create the hotlist, map it to a source text file, and configure it for your enforcement scenario.

On site tasks

These are the tasks to perform while on site. If you can’t complete the tasks on this checklist, contact your AutoVu™ representative.

Step Task Description Where to find more information
1 Install expansion modules. Depending on the deployment type you might need to install one or more expansion modules in the SharpZ3 base unit.
2 Install the SharpZ3 base unit in the vehicle. You can mount the base unit anywhere inside the vehicle that is safe, secure, and has good airflow.
3 Install peripheral hardware. In addition to the SharpZ3 base unit and cameras, you must install hardware that is associated with vehicle odometry or with SharpZ3 expansion modules.
4 Install the SharpZ3 cameras on the vehicle. Depending on the hardware ordered, systems can support either two or four SharpZ3 cameras.
5 (Optional) Install wheel-imaging cameras on the vehicle. If the system includes the AUX PoE expansion module, you can install wheel-imaging cameras to perform virtual tire-chalking.
6 (Optional) Install AutoVu™ auxiliary context cameras on the vehicle. To mount an AutoVu™ auxiliary PoE camera beside a SharpZ3 camera, you can install a SharpZ3 auxiliary camera bracket on the SharpZ3 hardmount.
7 Install and configure the in-vehicle computer. The in-vehicle computer must be powered through the base unit's auxiliary 8A Max relay.
8 Install a certificate to secure the Sharp Portal. SharpZ3 cameras must communicate using TLS encryption (HTTPS) using either the certificate that is auto-generated on the SharpZ3, a new self-signed certificate, or a signed certificate from your own public key infrastructure (PKI) or from a Certificate Authority such as VeriSign.
9 Configure the positions of the SharpZ3 cameras. Based on the location of the patrol vehicle and the position of the SharpZ3 cameras, the system can calculate the location of the target vehicle.
10 Associate wheel-imaging cameras. If the SharpZ3 system includes wheel-imaging cameras, you must associate them with their corresponding SharpZ3 camera units.
11 Configure SharpZ3 analytics. You can configure which plates the SharpZ3 will read, and whether the system should attempt to read the plate origin, vehicle make, vehicle type and color, and so on.
12 Install Genetec Patroller™. Genetec Patroller™ is the AutoVu™ software application installed on an in-vehicle computer. Genetec Patroller™ connects to Security Center and is controlled by the ALPR Manager.
13 Connect the SharpZ3 system to Genetec Patroller™. If Genetec Patroller™ does not connect to Security Center, you must offload license plate reads manually using a USB key.
14 Configure Genetec Patroller™. There are many tasks that must be performed to configure Genetec Patroller™, such as configuring your offload settings, connecting to Security Center, and so on.
15 (Optional) Install the T2 eTicketBook plugin. If the T2 eTicketBook will be used with Pay-by-Plate, the eTicketBook plugin needs to be installed on the in-vehicle computer.
  • Contact your T2 representative, they will install eTicketBook for you.
16 Align the SharpZ3 cameras. You must align your SharpZ3 cameras using the AutoVu™ Alignment Kit so they can read plates accurately.
17 (Optional) Configure plate filters The system can ignore certain vehicles based on the size of the license plate characters, the angle of the plate, or where the plate appears in the field of view.
18 Complete the installation. At the end of the installation you should test the system to ensure that the hardware is functional, and perform a read report to test performance.
