It is important to protect your data by scheduling regular database backups. Also, regularly clean your database to remove old data so that the database does not grow beyond its capacity. If the database is full, your integration might stop working.

Before you begin

  • Get access to the Server Admin machine and log on credentials.
  • Ensure you have the following privileges:
    • View role properties
    • Modify role properties
    • Administration > Intrusion detection

What you should know

  • For Security Center versions earlier than 5.11.1, when an expansion server is using the database on the main server, a backup of that database does not include the configuration files for the expansion server.

As a workaround, create a folder called SecurityCenterBackup on the C: drive of the expansion server. Backing up the database copies the configuration files of the expansion server into the local folder.

  • The Intrusion Manager role database contains event notifications from the DMP intrusion panels.
  • The Directory database contains the entities and their configuration, and custom events.
  • It is a best practice to schedule all database maintenance during non-peak hours.

Procedure

To schedule database backups:

  1. From Server Admin, back up the Directory database.
  2. From the Config Tool home page, open the Intrusion detection task.
  3. Select the Intrusion Manager role from the entity browser and click the Resources tab.
  4. Click Backup/Restore (), choose the location for backup files, enable automatic backups at least once per week, and then click OK.
  5. From the Intrusion Manager role, click the Properties tab, and specify how long to keep events.
  6. Click Apply.

To configure database cleanup:

  1. Click Properties and configure the general settings of the Intrusion Manager.
    Keep events
Specify how long you want to keep the events in the Intrusion Manager database before deleting them. The events are used for reporting and maintenance purposes (they include events for intrusion detection units, intrusion detection areas, and intrusion detection inputs).
    Indefinitely
Keep the events until you manually delete them.
    For
Select the number of days for the retention period.
    CAUTION:
If you are using the SQL Server 2014 Express database engine (included with the Security Center installation files), the database size is limited to 10 GB. An intrusion event uses (on average) 200 bytes in the database. If you configure the Intrusion Manager to keep intrusion events indefinitely, the database eventually reaches the 10 GB limit and the engine stops.
  2. Click Apply.
