For the airport 's Security Center Synergis™ system to manage the airport badges for access control purposes, you must assign access rights to the badges. This is done by associating cardholder groups and access rules to the badges.

Before you begin

Make sure that all access rules and cardholder groups that you need to associate your badges to have been properly configured in your Synergis™ system. For more information, see About Security Center Synergis™.

What you should know

A badge is defined in Genetec™ Airport Badging Solution as a unique combination of employee, company and badge type. An access right, in the context of a Synergis™ system, is the right granted to a cardholder to pass through an access point at a given date and time. Access rights are defined through access rules in Synergis™. Access rules are either directly applied to cardholders or inherited from cardholder groups.

To assign access rights to the badges, the Airport Badging Solution plugin creates a cardholder () entity for every badge you want to manage in your Synergis™ system. This cardholder will be created in the next step of the badge application process. For now, you need to specify which access rules should apply to this cardholder and which cardholder groups it should belong to.

Procedure

  1. From the Airport badging management task, select the applicant's name from the list of companies and employees.
To search for an employee, click at the bottom of the list and use the Search dialog box.
  2. Click the Badges tab.

In each section, a row represents a badge. In our example, John Doe has two badges, one Blue badge and one Red badge, both for Air Canada.
  3. Under the Access control entities section, click Link to access control entities ().
  4. In the dialog box that opens, select the badge (Company and Badge type) you want to link and click .
Airport badging management: Link to access control entities dialog box
  5. In the dialog box that opens, select the cardholder groups and access rules you want to link to this badge and click OK.
Airport badging management: Add access control entities dialog box
Use the search filters to help you find the entities you want by Name and by Type.
  6. Link more entities as necessary and click OK.
NOTE: If is not necessary to link the badge to access rules if the linked cardholder groups are already covered by access rules.
A new row is added to the Access rights section. If you linked the badge to a cardholder group, the cardholder representing the employee using this badge will be a member of that cardholder group. If you linked the badge to an access rule, then the new cardholder will be part of this access rule.
  7. To modify the access rights assigned to a badge, select a row and click Edit links ().
