Before you can issue airport ID badge applications, you must first define the badge types used at your airport.

What you should know

A badge type is a class of airport ID badges characterized by a set of airport access levels, employee privileges, and a badge template.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool home page, open the Plugins task.
  2. In the Plugins task, click Add an entity (), and select Badge type.
The badge type creation wizard opens.
  3. In the Name field, enter the name of the badge type.
  4. In the Airport access levels box, select the airport areas that an employee with this type of badge can access without an escort.
    The airport areas are:
    SIDA
The Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) is defined in the airport security program as any area that requires individuals to continuously display the airport ID badge. Before allowing unescorted access to this area, a person must be trained and their background investigated. The SIDA includes the secured area, the AOA, and possibly other areas.
    AOA
The Air Operations Area (AOA) is the portion of an airport designed and used for landing, take off, surface maneuvering or parking of airplanes together with all infield areas, runway protection zones, runway and taxiway safety areas, and unobstructed areas as appropriate. This area does not include the secured area.
    Sterile
A sterile area is an area of the airport where passengers boarding an aircraft must undergo screening of their person and property. It is generally controlled by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and supervised by aircraft operators or airline personnel.
    Secured
A secured area is any area of an airport where aircraft operators and airline personnel enplane and deplane passengers, sort and load baggages, and any adjacent areas that are not separated by adequate security measures.
    Public
A public area is any area of an airport open to the general public.
  5. (Optional) Click Badge template and select the badge template that should be used for badges of this type.
For information on how to create badge templates, see Designing badge templates.
  6. In the Airport employee privileges box, add the privileges that can be granted to an airport employee holding this type of badge.
The employee privileges must be predefined in the Properties page of the Airport Badging Solution plugin role.
NOTE: Airport employees can have less privileges than the ones granted to their badge type, but not more.
  7. Click Finish.
