Before the airport approves a badge application, the applicant must undergo security checks by government agencies.

What you should know

There are two types of security checks:
Airport badging management: Security checks
CHRC
Criminal History Record Check (CHRC). This check is conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and requires fingerprints. You must specify the company to which the results are to be sent when you request this check.
STA
Security Threat Assessment (STA). This check is conducted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Procedure

To submit a CHRC:

  1. From the Airport badging management task, select the applicant's name from the list of companies and employees.
To search for an employee, click at the bottom of the list and use the Search dialog box.
  2. Click the Security checks tab.
  3. Select CHRC and click Edit security check ().
The Edit security check dialog box opens.

  4. Click Send the results to, and do one of the following:
    • If the applicant's employer is an airline, select the airline from the drop-down list.
    • If the applicant's employer is not an airline, select the airport at the top of the list.
  5. If the applicant still has a valid CHRC, turn on the Link to exisitng case number option and enter the Existing case number and its Expiration date.
  6. If the applicant has a CHRC that is expired, select Use case number for resubmit.
In this case, a new set of fingerprints is not necessary. The DAC can reuse the fingerprints associated to the expired CHRC.
  7. If the applicant's employer is not an airline, you can subscribe to Rap Back.
Rap Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecutions BACK) is a service under the FBI's Next Generation Information (NGI) system that enables authorized entities to receive ongoing notifications of subsequent criminal history changes reported for individuals who have submitted fingerprints as part of a CHRC.
NOTE: The Rap Back option is turned on by default for non-airline employees, and is unavailable to airline employees.
  8. Click OK > Submit.
The applicant's information is sent to the government agency through the DAC. If there is any issue with the data you submitted, such as missing fingerprints, you immediately get an error message from the DAC.

To submit an STA:

  1. Select STA.
  2. Click Edit security check ().
The Edit security check dialog box opens.
  3. If the applicant still has a valid STA, turn on the Link to existing case number option and enter the Existng case number.

  4. Click OK > Submit.
The applicant's information is sent to the government agency through the DAC. If there is any issue with the data you submitted, such as an invalid case number, you immediately get an error message from the DAC.

Results

If the security checks are successfully submitted, the applicant's Status in the employee list changes from Pre-enrolled to Security checks pending.

After you finish

Wait for the DAC to receive the check results from government agencies. When the applicant's Status changes to Security checks completed, proceed to the application approval.
