If you are running Genetec™ Update Service (GUS) under a Service user (not the Local System Account), you will not be able to update GUS.

Cause

Unable to run GUS under the default Local System Account with a version earlier than 2.2.11.1.

Solution

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:
  • Have an Internet connection (using the Local System Account)
  • Set a proxy and have an Internet connection (using the Local System Account)
  • Or use the following steps:
    1. Set a proxy.
    2. Have an Internet connection (using a Service User).
    3. Request a download link for the GUS update (can request from Support Team).
    4. Get the downloaded file (.gpack file) and place it in the C:\ProgramData\Genetec Update Service\SharedGpacks folder on the proxy that was set in the first step.
    5. Go to every machine and set the Service User back to the default Local System Account.
    6. Download and Install GUS through the GUS web interface.
    7. Reapply the Service User if needed.
    8. Go to the proxy machine.
    9. Modify the .gpack file extension to .zip.
    10. Extract the contents of the zip.
    11. Install the Genetec™ Update Service and the Genetec Auto Update using the .msi files.
