The Genetec™ Web App is the default Web Server role for Security Center. By transitioning from Security Center Web Client to the Genetec Web App, you can take advantage of maps, event monitoring, an improved user interface, and more.

What you should know

  • To simplify the transition between Web Server roles for your users and system administrators, you can maintain some of your original configuration. By keeping your original Web Server URL, you avoid the need to update any firewall permissions or trusted URLs. To do this, you must create a Genetec Web Server role and configure the application path to match the web address from the Web Client.

For more information on creating multiple Web Server roles for complex systems, see Creating Web Server roles.

  • Web Client and Genetec Web App both use the same certificate as the Security Center server that hosts the Web Server role.

To view the certificate used by Genetec Web App, open Server Admin, select the Security Center server that hosts the Web Server role, and navigate to the Secure communication section.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the System task and click the Roles view.
  2. Click Add an entity () and then click Web Server ().
  3. Follow the Creating a role: Web Server wizard.
The Genetec Web App Web Server role () is created.
  4. Select the Web Server role for the Web Client, and click the Properties tab.
  5. Copy the text from the Web address field.
  6. Keep, delete, or deactivate the Web Server role that hosts the Security Center Web Client:
    • Keep: To continue running the Web Client, change the web address to be different from the Genetec Web App and click Apply.
    • Delete: To remove the Web Client from your system, right-click the Web Client and click Delete.
    • Deactivate: To be able to return to the Web Client later, right-click the Web Client and select Maintenance > Deactivate role.
    CAUTION:
The Web Client and Genetec Web App cannot share the same Web address or Application path.
  7. Select the Web Server role for the Genetec Web App and click the Properties tab.
  8. Paste the text into the Application path field, ensuring that the text matches the Web address originally used by the Web Client.
  9. Click Apply.
    The configuration is complete.
NOTE: You might need to adjust the language and time zone settings for the Genetec Web App. See Changing the time setting in the Genetec Web App for details.
