You can integrate RSS feeds in Security Center using the GeoRSS plugin by following a sequence of steps.

The following table lists the tasks required to integrate RSS feeds in Security Center, and then how to verify that the integration was successful.

Understand prerequisites and key issues before deploying
1 Before installing the plugin, read the release notes to learn about new features, and to understand the requirements and known issues.
2 Learn about the different components and how they connect together.
3 Learn what you can do using the plugin.
Prepare Security Center
4 Ensure that the expansion server where the plugin will be installed meets the recommended system requirements and is running a compatible version of Security Center.
5 In Security Center, create a map and add geo-references to it.
6 Grant users the privileges they need to use Security Center.
NOTE: Administrators need access to the privileges for plugins. However, there are no special privileges for the GeoRSS plugin.
7 Verify that the Security Center license has a valid certificate for the plugin, by going to the Config Tool home page, clicking About > Certificates, and confirming that GeoRSS is in the list.
  • The license number is included in the product-release email sent by Genetec Inc. This email also includes links to the plugin download package and other license information.

Deploy the plugin
8 On a Security Center server, download the plugin and install it.
9 In Config Tool, create the GeoRSS plugin role.
Add RSS feeds to the role
10 Add and subscribe to RSS feeds.
11 View all the incoming RSS documents in a feed.
12 Confirm that you see geo-located RSS feeds on Security Desk maps.
Set up event monitoring (optional)
13 If you want to limit the messages received from an RSS feed so that you only see messages for specific locations and for specific text, add filters to the feed.
14 If you want to see GeoRSS events in reports or in the Monitoring task, configure a GeoRSS feed to trigger a custom event.
15 If GeoRSS feeds are triggering custom events, confirm that you see the triggered events in the GeoRSS events report.
16 If you want to see events related to GeoRSS feeds in the Monitoring task of Security Desk, add the GeoRSS role to the Event monitoring list.
Set up your operator workstations
17 Install the plugin on all operators' Security Center workstations.
18 Confirm that the operator workstations function as expected. If it does, you have successfully completed the integration.

If the GeoRSS role on the server is configured to trigger custom events:

  • Do step 15.
  • Do step 16.
