What is the Mercury MP series?

Answer: The Mercury MP series is a new line of controllers that will replace the Mercury LP line of controllers. MP controllers were designed to enable sourcing redundancy and facilitate easy component swapping in the event of shortages. Mercury also took the opportunity to modernize the controller parts. The MP series offers enhanced cybersecurity features, including Secure Element and Secure Boot.

The Mercury MP series has the following new capabilities:
  • New MCU integrated at the beginning of its multi-year lifecycle
  • Secure world development supported by ARM TrustZone
  • Layered security with Secure Boot CPU, crypto chip, and data encryption
  • Upgraded memory to support future-ready, on-board app development
  • Dual-footprint circuit design and alternate components for business continuity
  • New manufacturing machines for streamlined supportability and throughput
  • New manufacturing software aimed at increasing quality and traceability

The MP series offers a seamless transition from the LP series due to its identical form factor. Both LP and MP series can coexist in any system. Replacement of the LP series is not necessary.

Which versions of Security Center support Mercury MP controllers?

Answer: Mercury MP controllers are supported in Security Center 5.8 and later. In versions earlier than Security Center 5.12.1.0, Mercury MP controllers are enrolled as Mercury LP controllers in Config Tool and are displayed as LP controllers. For example, an MP1501 controller is displayed as LP1501 in Security Center.

The following firmware versions are required for your Synergis™ units to support Mercury MP controllers:
Synergis Cloud Link
Synergis™ Cloud Link 3.1.2 or later
Legacy Synergis Cloud Link
Synergis™ Softwire 11.5.3 or later
Starting in Security Center 5.12.1.0, Mercury MP controllers can be enrolled as MP controllers.

Does Mercury MP support affect the support of Mercury EP or LP controllers?

Answer: No, the support for older generations of Mercury controllers is not affected. We remain committed to supporting the Mercury EP and LP series within Security Center Synergis™ for 10 years after the End of Sales (EOS) date.

More specifically, the EP series will be supported until October 2029 and the LP series will be supported until 2034.

The LP series will continue to receive non-hardware dependent features, bug fixes, and security updates from Mercury until the end of 2028.

When is the End of Sales date for the Mercury LP series?

Answer: The Mercury LP1501, LP1502, and LP2500 controllers will become End of Sales (EOS) by September 1, 2024. The LP4502 EOS will be December 1, 2024.

We’re extending the EOS date of the LP4502 to December 1, 2024 to ensure that projects requiring pivCLASS support are met because MP4502 controllers won’t offer pivCLASS support during the initial shipments.

MP4502 controllers will still be available to ship in September 2024, but a Mercury firmware update for pivCLASS support will arrive later. To facilitate a smooth transition to the MP series in the coming months, we’re closely collaborating with Mercury. MP controllers will be available at launch.

Which Mercury LP controllers will be replaced by Mercury MP controllers?

Answer: The entire line of Mercury LP controllers will reach End of Sales and be replaced by Mercury MP controllers. Specifically, Mercury LP1501, LP1502, LP2500, and LP4502 units will all be replaced by their MP controller equivalents that maintain the same form factor.

The following table lists all the Mercury LP part numbers and their equivalent Mercury MP part numbers:
LP series parts MP series parts
Sy-LP1501 Sy-MP1501
Sy-LP1502 Sy-MP1502
Sy-LP2500 Sy-MP2500
Sy-LP4502 Sy-MP4502
NOTE: While the MP series will replace the LP series in Mercury's product offering, the LP series will continue to be supported after the End of Sales date. For more information, see Does Mercury MP support affect the support of Mercury EP or LP controllers?

Are Mercury MR SIO modules impacted by Mercury MP support?

Answer: The Mercury MR line is currently not subject to change. The Mercury MP series is already compatible with MR SIO modules.

After I upgrade to Security Center 5.12.1.0, what happens to Mercury MP controllers that were enrolled as Mercury LP controllers?

Answer: After upgrading to Security Center 5.12.1.0, Mercury MP controllers that were enrolled as Mercury LP controllers are still displayed as LP controllers. Only Mercury MP controllers enrolled in Security Center 5.12.1.0 or later are correctly displayed as MP controllers.

Can I update Mercury MP controllers that were enrolled as Mercury LP controllers?

Answer: Yes, after upgrading to Security Center 5.12.1.0 or later, you can update the previously enrolled MP controllers to be displayed as MP controllers.

To switch a Mercury MP controller that was enrolled as an LP controller to be displayed as an MP controller in Config Tool:
  1. From the homepage in Config Tool, open the Access control task, and click the Roles and units view.
  2. From the entity tree, select the Synergis™ unit with the MP controller that was enrolled as an LP controller, and then click the Peripherals tab.
  3. Select the MP controller that was enrolled as an LP controller.
  4. Press Ctrl+Shift and click Edit the item.
  5. In the window that opens, click Convert.
  6. Click Apply.

The Mercury MP controller is now listed as an MP controller in Security Center.

How do I replace a Mercury EP or LP controller with a Mercury MP controller in Security Center?

Answer: Converting a Mercury EP or LP controller to a Mercury MP controller requires Security Center 5.12.1.0. Unplug the Mercury EP or LP controller. Assign the IP address of the Mercury EP or LP controller to the Mercury MP controller.

After upgrading to Security Center 5.12.1.0, follow the steps in Can I update Mercury MP controllers that were enrolled as Mercury LP controllers?

Am I missing features if I’m using a Mercury MP controller enrolled as a Mercury LP controller?

Answer: Yes. Firmware recommendations are not accurate and you cannot upgrade the controller firmware from Config Tool.
