To quickly configure the states, data points, events, and actions when adding multiple entities having the same properties to Security Center, you can create entity types and use them as templates.

Before you begin

Make sure you have the data points you want to monitor for the entity type your are creating.

What you should know

A entity type is a set of common properties shared by multiple entities. Entity types can be used as templates, but they are not templates. Entities created using an entity type inherit the properties of the entity type, such as states, data points, events, and actions. When you modify an entity type, you modify all entities that inherit its properties. You can create an entity type manually or from an existing entity.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool home page, open the Plugins task.
  2. Select the Industrial IoT plugin role and click the Entity types tab.
  3. In the Entity types section, click Add an entity type ().
  4. Enter a name for the entity type and click Add.
  5. In the Information section, select an icon for the entity type.
  6. In the States section, select icons to indicate a state change on the entity type.
  7. In the Data points section, add the data points that you want to monitor with this entity type.
For more information, see the "Adding data points" topics for the types of entities you want under the "Adding devices and entities" chapter.
  8. For BACnet, Modbus, and OPC UA entities, in the Actions section, add the actions for writing on data points.
  9. For SNMP entities, in the Events section, add SNMP traps to the entity.
  10. For TCP entities, add events that you want to trigger when a condition is met.
  11. Click Apply.

After you finish

  • (Optional) To save the entity type as a .JSON file on your workstation, click Export.
  • Add the entities using the entity type you created.
