For the Genetec™ Industrial IoT plugin role to monitor and control Modbus devices,
you must add them to Security Center.
Procedure

From the Config Tool homepage, open the Plugins
task.

Select the Industrial IoT plugin role from the entity browser.

In the Devices tab, you can add devices manually or by
using the discovery tool. Skip this step if you want to add devices
manually.

To use the discovery tool, click on Discover
devices(
). Only
devices communicating with the Modbus protocol can be discovered.
The
Discover devices dialog box
opens.

Select Modbus as the
Protocol.

Enter the following information:
- IP address
- IP address of the discoverable Modbus device. Slide the
toggle towards a Single IP address or
a Range of addresses.
- Port
- Port number of the Modbus device.
- List
- Add a maximum of five port numbers to search for
devices, each separated by a comma.
- Range
- Enable it to search devices on a range of 300
port numbers.
- Data point
- Discrete input
- Type of data point used for responding to a Modbus query by
the connected devices. Choose one of the following:
- Coil
- Discrete input
- Holding register
- Input register
- Address
- Address of the data point on the device. Decimal
value(Dec.) has a range of 0 - 65535 or
FFFF if you are using the Hexadecimal
value(Hex.).
- Number of registers
- It is the number of registers the data point responds to.
This field appears if the Holding
register or Input
Register type of data point is
selected.
- Unit ID
- Modbus Unit ID between 0 - 255 can be searched to discover
devices.
- Discover multiple unit IDs per endpoint
- Select the checkbox to configure the Modbus gateway to
search for more than one device per combination of IP
addresses and ports.

Click Discover devices(
)

Select the devices and data points from the generated list and click
Add.

To add devices manually:

Click the Devices tab and click Add a
device (
).
The
Add a device dialog box opens.

Enter the following information:
- Name
- A unique name used to identify this device in your system.
- Type
- (Optional) The device type to apply as a model for this device.
Device types define the common properties, such as protocol, states,
data points, and actions, shared by a group of devices. Using a
device type simplifies your configuration work. Device types are
defined in the Device types page of the
Industrial IoT plugin role.
NOTE: If you select
None, you must manually configure all
properties for the device in Security Center. If this is your
first device, you can complete its configuration and create the
device type from it.
- Protocol
- Select Modbus Client.
The dialog box expands to show the rest of the information you
must enter.

Enter the rest of the information:
- IP address
- IP address of the device.
- Port
- Port used by the device.
- Unit ID
- Modbus Unit ID given to the device.

Click Add.

Click Apply.
Results
The device is displayed in the entity browser under
the Industrial IoT plugin.
