For the Genetec™ Industrial IoT plugin role to monitor and control BACnet devices,
you must add them to Security Center.
What you should know
- BACnet devices must be in the same subnet as the plugin.
- BACnet devices communicate in broadcast mode across their subnet. If you want to
deploy devices over multiple subnets, you must use a BACnet Broadcast Management
Device (BBMD).
Procedure
-
From the Config Tool homepage, open the Plugins
task.
-
Select the Industrial IoT plugin role from the entity browser.
-
In the Devices tab, you can add devices manually or by
using the discovery tool. Skip this step if you want to add devices
manually.
-
To use the discovery tool, click on Discover
devices(
). Only
devices communicating with the BACnet protocol can be discovered.
-
Select BACnet as the
Protocol.
-
(Optional) In the Advanced settings, set the
Timeout(ms) and the number of
Retries.
-
Click Discover devices(
)
-
Select the devices and data points from the generated list and click
Add.
-
To add devices manually, click Add a device (
).
-
In the Add a device dialog box enter the following
information:
- Name
- A unique name used to identify this device in your system.
- Type
- (Optional) The device type to apply as a model for this device.
Device types define the common properties, such as protocol, states,
data points, and actions, shared by a group of devices. Using a
device type simplifies your configuration work. Device types are
defined in the Device types page of the
Industrial IoT plugin role.
NOTE: If you select
None, you must manually configure all
properties for the device in Security Center. If this is your
first device, you can complete its configuration and create the
device type from it.
- Protocol
- Select BACnet.
-
Selecting BACnet expands the dialog box. Enter the rest of the
information:
- Device ID
- The ID indicated on the BACnet device.
- Maximum concurrent outgoing requests
- It is the maximum number of confirmed requests that a device
can receive concurrently. You can choose to inherit the
configuration from the BACnet protocol or have a custom
configuration.
- Out-of-service warnings
- Displays a warning message when the device is out of service
(when the Status is displayed in
yellow). This setting is defined at the BACnet protocol
level. You can decide to follow the protocol configuration
or to enable or disable the warnings on a per-device
basis.
- Force polling
- If it is enabled, every data point is polled at a regular
interval and if it is disabled, subscription to value change
is prioritized. The configuration can also be inherited from
the BACnet protocol.
-
Click Add.
The device is added to the list of devices.
-
Click Apply.
Results
The device is displayed in the entity browser under
the Industrial IoT plugin.
