For a device or entity to automatically perform an action at a regular interval, you can create a rule in Security Center.

Before you begin

  • Add your device
  • Add data points to your devices and entities.
Best Practice: For optimal performance of the plugin, it is recommended to limit the number of data points and rules to 5000 respectively.

What you should know

  • This type of rule is only available for the BACnet, Modbus Client, MQTT and OPC Client devices.
  • This type of rule cannot trigger alarms, change states, or raise other Security Center events. These operations actions be performed by creating an event-to-action in the System task in Config Tool, or in Mission Control.
  • The only action supported by this type of rule is Write on a data point.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Plugins task.
  2. From the entity browser, select the Industrial IoT plugin role and click the Rules tab.
  3. In the Rules section, click Add a rule ().
  4. In the Information section, enter a name and description.
  5. In the Conditions section, select On schedule from the Condition list and enter the time interval for how often you want the rule to run.
  6. In the Actions section, select Write on a data point and specify the data point and the value.
  7. (Optional) To add more actions to the rule, click Add action ().
  8. (Optional) To duplicate a rule, right-click on the rule and select Duplicate.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. (Optional) To duplicate a data point, right-click on the data point and select Duplicate.
  11. (Optional) To deactivate a data point, right-click on the data point and select Deactivate.

Results

The rule is enabled by default. To disable the rule, move the slider to OFF.

Example

If you have a temperature controller device in a room and want to keep the room at a certain temperature, you can create a rule that writes the desired temperature to the device every 30 minutes.
