Exceptional situations can impact the function and use of KiwiVision™ Privacy Protector™.
Exceptional situations with the software
- Lighting failure
Sudden changes of illumination, such as the failure of a light source, can pixelate the whole image until the change is incorporated into the background model. This pixelation can be partly offset by activating multiple background models. For more information, see Configuring privacy protection advanced settings.
- Camera or video source failure
Privacy Protector™ stops when a video stream is lost. Privacy protection resumes when the stream is restored.
- Computer reboot
Privacy Protector™ is programmed to start automatically during system boot with the last configuration. For more information, see Privacy protection does not resume after a hardware restart.
- Identifying known individuals
Total anonymization is not guaranteed. If an observer knows the person in a privacy protected video stream, they can identify that person based on height, behavior, or the color of their clothing. The difficulty of this identification can be increased by choosing a more aggressive pixelation method. For more information, see Configuring privacy protection on cameras.
- Hardly moving people
If a person hardly moves over a significant period, Privacy Protector™ might treat them as part of the background. These people will be partially or completely unpixelated. To ensure adequate privacy, use static privacy zones in places where this might happen, such as an office work station. For more information, see Configuring privacy protection on cameras.

Fire and heavy smoke are pixelated.
Exceptional situations with saved personal data
To mitigate data leaks and unauthorized access to plain video, video and log files that contain personal information must be protected. Access control measures, such as password protection, restricted access to hardware, and user activity reports are highly recommended. Ideally, personal information can only be read by authorized users.
