Modifying the Config Tool or Security Desk shortcut using command-line arguments

To automatically connect to a Security Center Directory or to prepare your user's workspace when opening Config Tool or Security Desk from the application shortcut, you can add command-line arguments to the shortcut target.

What you should know

When you modify the shortcut, you can indicate which user automatically logs on, which Directory the user connects to, whether Config Tool or Security Desk starts with specific tasks already open, and so on.

Procedure

  1. In Windows, right-click the Config Tool or Security Desk shortcut, and click Properties.
  2. Click the Shortcut tab.
  3. At the end of the Target field, add the command-line arguments you want to use.
    Specify the Directory name.
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Genetec Security Center 5.x\SecurityDesk.exe" /Directory Video-Server /Username David /PasswordEncrypted ******
    /Directory
    The directory name
    /Username
    The username
    /PasswordEncrypted
The encrypted version of the user's password from the directory database.
  4. Click Apply > OK.
NOTE: Use /help or/? for more command line options.

Results

When you double-click the shortcut, Config Tool or Security Desk opens using the settings you specified.
