To recover faster from errors or failures that require reconfiguring the entire system, you can back up and restore the network configuration of your system.

Before you begin

You need the Modify network properties privilege to perform this operation.

What you should know

  • The network configuration backup files are encrypted and stored on the client machine running the Config Tool. The network configuration settings are local and cannot be transferred to another machine.
  • Automatic backups are stored whenever a configuration is changed, including when restoring another backup.

    You can store a maximum of 50 automatic network configuration backups. The default is 10. You can change this value in the User interaction section of the Options dialog box in Config Tool.

Procedure

To back up the network configuration:

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Network view task.
  2. Click Back up or restore the network configuration ().
    The Back up or restore the network configuration dialog box opens.
    The Back up or restore the network configuration dialog box shows the options to back up and restore network configuration.
  3. In the Backup area, click Select folder () and select the folder to save the backup file to.
    The default location is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Genetec Inc\NetworkBackup. If the folder does not exist, the system creates it.
  4. Click Back up.
    A .bak backup file is created in the backup folder.

To restore the network configuration:

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Network view task.
  2. Click Back up or restore the network configuration ().
    The Back up or restore the network configuration dialog box opens.
  3. In the Restore area, click Select folder () and navigate to the folder where the backup files are stored.
    The default location is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Genetec Inc\NetworkBackup.
  4. Select the backup file.
    When you select an auto-generated backup file, the system shows contextual information about the reason for the backup.

  5. Click Restore.
    NOTE: A warning is displayed if the backup causes a server reconnection.
