To upload evidence from a body-worn camera (BWC) to a Security Center archive, you must configure the Wearable Camera Manager role.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you have a valid body-worn camera license. The part number is GSC-Om-X-1BWC.
  • Configure your firewall ports before creating the Wearable Camera Manager role.
NOTE: Update firewall ports after a major upgrade.

What you should know

  • When you add a camera station to the Wearable Camera Manager role, Security Center creates a configuration file in .json format. This .json file must be added to the third-party system that manages the camera station so it can connect to the role and enable secure communication.
  • Redundant archiving or failover is not supported when using body-worn cameras.
  • For a list of body-worn camera devices that Security Center supports, see our Supported Device List.

Procedure

  1. Create a Wearable Camera Manager role:
    1. Open the System task and click Roles > Add an entity > Wearable Camera Manager.
    2. (Optional) On the Specific info page, select the associated Archiver roles, set a retention period, and click Next.

Selecting a retention period automatically ensures that older videos are deleted after the specified period.

IMPORTANT: Imported files must not be older than the current retention period.
    3. On the Basic information page, enter an entity name and description, then click Next.
    4. On the Summary page, click Create.
    5. On the Entity creation outcome page, click Close.
  2. Configure the camera station:
    1. Click the Hardware tab of the Wearable Camera Manager role.
    2. In the Camera stations section, click Add an item ().
The Camera station dialog box opens.
    3. Enter the following:
      Name
Enter a name for the camera station.
      File password
Enter a password for the .json file that you will add to the system that manages the camera station.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click Apply.
    6. In the Camera stations section, click Go to file location.
A Windows Explorer window opens, displaying an encrypted .zip file that contains the .json file.
    7. Extract the .json file from the .zip file, using the password that was applied to the file when the camera station was created.
You must use a file extraction tool that is capable of extracting a file from an encrypted .zip file, such as 7-ZIP or WinZip.
    8. Copy or transfer the configuration file to the third-party software managing the camera station.
For more information, refer to the documentation of the camera station.
NOTE: After you upload the configuration file to the camera station, it is recommended that you delete the file.
  3. (Optional) Add Archivers to share the load on systems with many body-worn cameras:
    1. In the Associated Archiver roles section of the Properties page, click Add an item ().
    2. Select the additional Archivers that you want to use.
    3. Click Apply.
IMPORTANT: If any configuration changes are made to a camera station or an associated Archiver in Config Tool, you must regenerate the .json file and upload it to the third-party system that manages the station. To regenerate the files, do one of the following:
    • Select the Generate new configuration file for this camera station option when renaming a camera station.
    • Click the Regenerate all button in the Camera stations section of the Hardware page.

Results

You can now dock your body-worn camera to connect and transfer video to Security Center.
  • Video uploads begin automatically when a camera is connected to the body-worn camera station.
  • After the upload completes, you can find and view the uploaded video in Security Desk by using the Archives investigation task.
NOTE: Depending on the size and number of evidence files that you upload, the videos might not appear in the Security Desk archives report immediately. Configure an event-to-action for Evidence ready to be notified when an officer's recording is ready for viewing.

After you finish

Add a camera or an officer.
