Before replacing an access control unit with a different one, ensure that both units meet the replacement criteria, then back up the existing configuration, and reconfigure the units as required.

What you should know

For the unit replacement to be successful, the access control units must meet the following criteria:
  • They share the same brand and model.
NOTE: For example, you can’t replace a Synergis™ Cloud Link unit with a legacy Synergis Cloud Link unit. However, the following exceptions are supported:
    • Replacing an HID VertX V1000 unit with a Synergis Cloud Link or legacy Synergis Cloud Link unit.
    • Replacing a legacy Synergis Cloud Link unit with a Synergis Cloud Link unit.
In every case, the same interface modules must be connected to the new unit. Any differences other than the mentioned exceptions causes the unit replacement to be rejected.
  • The new unit must run a firmware version equal to or newer than the old unit's firmware.
For more information about Synergis Cloud Link configuration, see the following guides:
  • For Synergis Cloud Link units, see the Synergis™ Cloud Link Administrator Guide and Synergis™ Cloud Link Hardware Installation Guide.
  • For legacy Synergis Cloud Link units, see the Synergis™ Appliance Configuration Guide and Synergis™ Cloud Link Appliance Hardware Installation Guide.

Procedure

  1. Back up the Directory database from Server Admin.
  2. Upgrade the new unit to a firmware version equal to or newer than the old unit's firmware.
  3. For Synergis Cloud Link units, back up the unit configuration files.
NOTE: If the old unit is no longer reachable, and you don’t have a backup file, then you must manually configure the new unit to match the old one. Add the hardware that was on the old unit to the new one before replacing it. This isn’t required for the Mercury or Honeywell controller integrations.
  4. Physically disconnect the old unit and make sure it’s offline in Security Center ().
  5. Physically install the new unit.
  6. For RS-485 integrations, physically disconnect the RS-485 interface modules from the old unit and connect them to the new unit using the same channels.
IMPORTANT: Don’t change the physical addresses of the interface modules.
  7. For Synergis Cloud Link units, restore the old unit's configuration files on the new unit.
  8. Add the new unit in Security Center:
