To keep OSS Standard Offline cards valid and able to unlock doors, you must periodically update them with the latest access rights.

What you should know

You can update a card by presenting it to a reader that is configured to update cards when cards are presented to it. This reader can be a smart card encoding station (USB reader) or a reader controlled by a Synergis™ unit.

When the card is presented to the reader, the reader reads the files in the configuration, and updates the access rights on the card accordingly. The information that is updated includes the validity expiration date, doors, access rules, events, and blacklist.

NOTE: If you update a card using a USB reader from Security Desk, the events are not generated in the Monitoring task.

Procedure

To update a card at a reader controlled by a Synergis unit:

  1. Configure a reader to update OSS Standard Offline cards.
  2. Present the card to the reader.
If you use a STid reader, during the update, the reader LED blinks fast and emits short beeps.
    • If the update was successful, the reader LED turns green for a second and emits a long, high-pitched beep.
    • If the update failed, the reader LED turns red for a second and emits a long, low-pitched beep.
If you use an OSDP reader, the reader LED and sound behavior vary per manufacturer.

To update a card at a USB reader:

  1. Set up a smart card encoding station.
  2. From the Config Tool or Security Desk homepage, open the Cardholder management task.
  3. Select the cardholder for which you want to update a card, and then click Modify.
NOTE: Ensure that you select the correct cardholder for the card. The card is updated with the data from the selected cardholder, even if it's the wrong cardholder.
  4. In the Credential section, click Add a credential > Automatic entry.
  5. In the Automatic entry dialog box, select STid USB reader from the list.
  6. Turn on the Update badge option.
  7. Select the OSS Standard Offline configuration that you want to update the card with.
    Example:

  8. Present the card to the reader.
During the update, the reader LED blinks fast and emits short beeps.
    • If the update was successful, the reader LED turns green for a second and emits a long, high-pitched beep.
    • If the update failed, the reader LED turns red for a second and emits a long, low-pitched beep.

Results

The card is updated with the latest information, and the revalidation period restarts for the card.
