The Import tool lets you import cardholders, cardholder groups, and credentials from a comma-separated values (CSV) file.

Overview

The Import tool is available in Security Center when the corresponding license is enabled. You must have the Import tool privilege to open the tool.

The Import tool supports importing data from plain text CSV files that use delimiters such as commas, spaces, or periods to separate fields. Each field in the CSV file represents a value, such as first name, last name, cardholder group, or the path and filename of the employee photo.

Tip: You can schedule imports by using the Import from a file action in a scheduled task.

Using the Import tool

You can use the Import tool to perform the following tasks:
  • Importing credentials only
    You can import credentials data, including:
    • Card format
    • Card number
    • Credential activation date
    • Credential code
    • Credential expiry date
    • Credential name
    • Facility code
    • License plate
    • Number of inactive days before credential expires
    • Number of days after first use before credential expires
    • Partition
    • PIN
    • Status
  • Importing cardholders only
    You can import cardholders data, including:
    • Cardholder activation date
    • Cardholder expiry date
    • Cardholder group
    • Cardholder name
    • Custom field
    • Description
    • Email
    • Mobile phone number
    • Number of inactive days before cardholder expires
    • Number of days after first use before cardholder expires
    • Partition
    • Picture
    • Status
    • Whether cardholder escort visitors
  • Importing cardholders and credentials together

    You can import cardholders and credentials on the same line. The Import tool automatically links each cardholder to their corresponding credential.

  • Replacing credentials in bulk

    You can replace existing credentials with updated ones. For example, when issuing new ID cards to all employees in your company.

  • Replacing cardholder groups in bulk

    You can replace existing cardholder groups with new ones, For example, when a group of students must switch groups between semesters because different courses require different access permissions.

Limitations of the Import tool

If you import multiple cardholders who belong to different partitions, and the CSV file includes either no cardholder group or only one cardholder group, the Import tool adds the cardholders to all partitions.
