To ensure proper access control, cards encoded with an OSS Standard Offline configuration must be periodically updated with the latest access rights. You can configure a reader to update these cards each time they are presented.

What you should know

  • The Synergis unit must be running Synergis™ Softwire 11.6.0 or later, or Synergis™ Cloud Link 3.2.0 or later.
  • The reader must be either a STid reader using the SSCP protocol or an OSDP reader. The reader must be directly connected to the Synergis unit. For example, OSDP readers connected to Mercury controllers cannot be used to update OSS Standard Offline cards.
  • The reader doesn’t need to be connected to a door. It can be a standalone reader used as a card updating station.

Procedure

  1. Enable the Access Manager role to manage offline doors:
    1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Access control task, and then click the Roles and units view.
    2. From the entity tree, click the Access Manager role, and then click the Properties tab.
    3. In the For Synergis units under this Access Manager role section, select the Manage offline doors option.
    4. Click Apply, and then restart the Access Manager role.
The offline doors can now be synced to the Synergis units under the Access Manager role.
  2. Export the OSS Standard Offline configuration to the Synergis unit:
    1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the MIFARE DESFire configuration task.
    2. On the Configuration page, under the MIFARE DESFire configuration list, click Export to units.
    3. In the Unit selection dialog box, select the Synergis unit to export the configuration to.
    4. Click Export.
  3. Associate the reader with the OSS Standard Offline configuration:
    1. Log on to the Synergis unit.
    2. Click Configuration > MIFARE DESFire.
    3. From the Available configurations list for the reader, select the OSS Standard Offline configuration.
    4. In the OSS update column for the reader, select the checkbox, and then click Save.

Results

The reader can now be used to update access rights on cards encoded with the OSS Standard Offline configuration.
