By default, the expiration of cardholders and credentials is set to Never. You can force cardholders and credentials to have an expiration by removing the Never option with a setting in Config Tool.

What you should know

  • You can only remove the Never option from Config Tool and Security Desk. The SDK is unaffected by this change.
  • Removing the Never option doesn’t affect the expiration of existing cardholders and credentials that were set to never expire. However, an invalid status warning and an error under their expiration is displayed. You must manually select a new expiration option for those cardholders and credentials.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the System task, and click the General settings view.
  2. Click the Advanced settings tab.
  3. Click Add an item ().
  4. In the Name field, enter RemoveNeverExpireFromCardholdersAndCredentials.
  5. In the Value field, enter True.

Config Tool Advanced settings showing the RemoveNeverExpire FromCardholdersAndCredentials option.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Restart Config Tool and Security Desk.

Results

The Never option is no longer visible. A warning is shown on cardholders and credentials whose expiration was previously set to Never, and an error is shown under their expiration.
Example:
Cardholder with an invalid status warning and error under the expiration in Config Tool.

After you finish

Select a new expiration option for those cardholders and credentials.
