You can replace a Security Center access control unit with a new, compatible unit in the case of failure or upgrade. This process copies the event logs and configuration settings from the old unit to the new unit.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that the unit you are replacing is offline and disconnected.
  • Ensure that you back up the Directory database.
  • To replace HID units, temporarily deactivate the Access Manager role.
For full details, see Preparing to replace an access control unit.

What you should know

The configuration settings that are copied over to the new unit include associations to doors, elevators, and zones.

Procedure

  1. To replace an HID unit, temporarily deactivate the Access Manager role.
    1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Access control task, and click the Roles and units view.
    2. Right-click the Access Manager role, and click Maintenance > Deactivate role ().
    3. In the confirmation dialog box that opens, click Continue.
The Access Manager and all the access control units controlled by the role turn red.
  2. Use the Unit replacement tool to replace the old access control unit with the new one.
    1. From the Config Tool homepage, click Tools > Unit replacement.
    2. On the Source page, select Access control unit from the Unit type list.
    3. Select the access control unit to replace, and click Next.
An access control unit must be offline for you to select it.
    4. On the Destination page, select a new access control unit to replace the old unit.

    5. Click Replace.
NOTE: For V1000 to Synergis Cloud Link replacements, if the V1000 had sub-panels (interface modules) using the same physical address, link the V1000 sides to the Synergis Cloud Link channels.
The old access control unit is replaced and its event logs and configuration settings are copied to the new unit.
NOTE: If the unit replacement process doesn't finish within five minutes, it times out. If this occurs, restart the process.
  3. For HID unit replacements, reactivate the Access Manager role.
    1. Open the Access control task.
    2. Click the Roles and units view.
    3. Right-click the Access Manager role.
    4. Click Maintenance > Activate role ().
  4. In the entity tree, select the new unit, and verify that the configuration settings are correct.
  5. Verify that all doors controlled by the new unit are operating properly.
  6. Right-click the old unit, and click Delete ().
  7. In the confirmation dialog box that opens, click Delete.

After you finish

If the old Synergis Cloud Link unit is no longer reachable, and you didn’t back up the unit configuration, then you must configure the following on the new unit to match the old one:
  • Supervised input resistor values
NOTE: This isn’t required for the Mercury or Honeywell controller integrations.
  • Automation engine rules
