From Config Tool, you can upgrade the firmware and platform of one or more access control units, or upgrade the firmware of one or more interface modules.
Before you begin
- For downstream devices, ensure that the device can be upgraded in Config Tool, based on the Synergis™ Softwire version running on the Synergis™ Cloud Link unit.
- For HID EVO units:
- Verify the upgrade path for the unit you want to upgrade.
- Ensure that the Admin password is set in Config Tool under the unit's properties.
- Download a supported firmware version or cumulative security rollup for the unit
from GTAP.
- For Axis Powered by Genetec units, the firmware (Synergis™ Softwire app) and the platform (Axis firmware) are found in the same firmware upgrade package.
- For HID EVO firmware download links, see HID firmware upgrade procedure for EVO units.
- Ensure that Power over Ethernet (PoE) units have battery backup in case of power failure during the upgrade process.
What you should know
- You cannot upgrade to the same version or an older version.
- Plan upgrades outside of regular business hours.IMPORTANT: Upgrading the platform can cause 30 to 60 minutes of downtime. During this time, the unit might reboot twice to finish installing the cumulative security rollup.
- The system can upgrade up to 10 units at the same time. If you choose more than 10 units for the upgrade, the extra units will be put in a queue.
- You cannot cancel an upgrade that is already in progress. You can only cancel an upgrade if the unit's upgrade status in the Hardware inventory report is Scheduled.
- Doors connected to the access control unit being upgraded will not work during a firmware or cumulative security rollup upgrade.
- The Upgrade (
) button is only displayed in the action commands
at the bottom of the screen when all of the following conditions are met:- You have the Upgrade access control units and the Unit enrollment user privileges.
- The Access Manager role is not in backward compatibility mode.
- All selected units or interface modules are of the same product
type.
Example: The Axis Powered by Genetec A1210 and A1610 units do not share the same platform upgrade packages and cannot be upgraded together.
- The selected interface modules can be upgraded in Config Tool. This requires Synergis Softwire 11.1 or later, depending on the interface module.
- None of the selected units are Streamvault™ appliances.
- None of the selected units have a scheduled firmware upgrade pending.
- None of the selected units are federated.
Procedure

For Legacy Synergis Cloud Link units, click Upgrade (), and select one of the following:
- To upgrade the firmware, select Upgrade firmware.
- To install a cumulative security rollup, select Upgrade platform.

For all other device types, click Upgrade ().

(Optional) To delay the upgrade, click Advanced options, and
select Delay upgrade until, and enter the upgrade date and
time.
The following screenshot is for reference only. The actual dialog box may vary depending on the type of device selected.

Click Upgrade.
NOTE: You can also upgrade an individual access control unit from the Access control task in Config Tool, on the unit’s Identity page in the Roles and units view. However, you must upgrade interface module firmware from the Hardware inventory task
Results
After you finish
- When the units or interface modules come back online, generate another Hardware inventory report in Config Tool. Check the displayed firmware or platform version.
- Make sure that all doors controlled by the upgraded units or interface modules work correctly.
