Consider the following best practices when enrolling and configuring your video and access control units for a Security Center deployment.
- Use consistent firmware versions on similar hardware models. Different firmware versions
on similar models might cause unexpected behavior on your units.
Always select the highest supported level of firmware available for your Security Center version. For a list of supported firmware versions and certification levels for video and access control units, see our Supported Devices List.
NOTE: If you must downgrade firmware versions to ensure consistency, make sure that the units don’t default to factory settings.Tip: When updating unit firmware, have the current firmware file available in case you need to roll back the update. We recommend that you update one or two units first, monitor the units, and then apply the update to the rest of the units. - For each unit, note the following information for future diagnostics and troubleshooting
purposes: data closet, panel port, switch, and switch port.
There are network storage tools that can track this information for you, or you can get this information from the unit web page.
- For each camera, enable the Record metadata option in the
Recording tab of the camera in Config Tool. Recording metadata is
useful for analytics and for filtering recorded video.CAUTION:Enable this option only if the metadata is needed. In some cases, there’s too much metadata collected and this option must be disabled to prevent system performance issues.
