Security Center uses the first network interface card (NIC) in your network connections list. Make sure that your NICs are in the right order, and disable any unused connections.

Procedure

  1. From the Start menu, open the Run app and enter ncpa.cpl.
  2. In the Network Connections window, press Alt, then select Advanced > Advanced Settings.
  3. In the Provider Order tab, change your NIC order as needed:
    1. Select your preferred NIC and use the up and down arrows to move it to the top of the list.
    2. Make sure the Microsoft Windows Network is higher than other items.
    3. Click OK.
  4. In the Network Connections window, right-click your preferred NIC and select Properties.
  5. If you are using IPv4, make sure IPv4 is listed above IPv6 in the Networking tab.
  6. Select your network adapter, click Properties > Advanced, and configure your adapter settings:
    1. In the IP Settings tab, disable the Automatic metric option.
    2. In the Interface metric field, enter 1.
NOTE: If you have multiple network adapters, assign each network card an increment of 10 (1, 10, 20), in order of priority.
    3. Click OK and then click OK.
  7. In the Network Connections window, right-click any disconnected or unused network connections and select Disable.
