You can change a variable message sign's mode, brightness, and activated messages quickly by managing your sign in Config Tool or Security Desk.

Procedure

  1. Open the managing menu by doing one of the following:
    • From the Config Tool home page, open the Area view task, and right-click your DMS entity from the entity tree.
    • From the Security Desk home page, open the Monitoring task, and right-click your DMS entity from the entity tree.
    • From the Security Desk home page, open the Monitoring task, drag a DMS entity to a monitoring tile, and right-click the tile.
  2. Manage your sign as needed:
    Blank sign
    Deactivate all messages on the sign.
    Edit message
    Create or edit a custom message for the sign.
    Poll sign
    Poll the sign.
    Put in maintenance mode
    Disable hardware status alarms and only allow test messages to be activated on the sign.
    Put in passive mode
    Only allow Security Center to poll the sign and display messages in a monitoring tile.
    NOTE: Changes to the messages activated on a sign that is in passive mode are not displayed until the sign is put online.
    Reset sign
    Send an NTCIP command to the sign to reset the external controller.
    Set brightness
    Choose which brightness mode the sign uses: photocell or manual.
    NOTE: Manual brightness values range from 0 - 255.
    Put online
    Put the sign online.
    Take offline
    Take the sign offline.
