Before you can monitor vehicles in Security Center, you must add AVL unit entities to the Fleet Monitoring plugin role.

Before you begin

  • Download and install the Security Center Fleet Monitoring and Security Center Vehicle Monitoring plugins.
  • Add federated vehicle units to the system.
  • Configure a default GIS map in Plan Manager.
  • Add a GPS unit and configure a map area for this device.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool home page, open the Area view task.
  2. Click Add an entity, select AVL unit, and then enter an entity Name.
Tip: For better search indexing, it is a best practice to include the vehicle type and identification number in the entity name.
  3. Click the Properties tab.
  4. Select the GPS unit and Area for this device by clicking .
  5. (Optional) Configure the following settings:
    Polling
Adjust the polling times for the unit.
    • Poll interval: Polling interval in seconds.
    • Stale location age: If the system does not receive location data for the GPS unit by the time indicated here, it considers the data to be stale.
    Accelerometer
If you are using an accelerometer, select the unit model. Define any accelerometer thresholds and whether to receive events based on these thresholds.
    Display unit
If you are using an onboard LCD screen, select the unit model.
    Input/output device
Input or output for external sensors.
    Local archivers
Destination archiver for offloaded video data.
    WiFi
If you are using an embedded WiFi adapter, select Monitor WiFi connection. You can choose to receive events when the GPS unit is connected or disconnected from WiFi, and set the intervals in seconds for verifying the unit's WiFi connection.
  6. (Optional) Click the Areas of interest tab, and configure the areas in which the AVL unit triggers entry or exit events.
    1. In the Receive events section, select All areas or Specific areas.
    2. If you selected Specific areas, click Add an item and add areas as needed.
  7. (Optional) Click the Data offload tab, and override default plugin options for the AVL unit.
NOTE: It is recommended to set the Destination archiver at the AVL unit level.
  8. Click Apply.
