AVL unit settings include default attribute definitions and configuration for automatic AVL unit creation. Default attributes provide a way to define custom information you wish to collect for each vehicle, like manufacturer or required fuel type. Automatic AVL unit creation allows AVL units to be created and removed automatically for systems that wish to only track vehicles that are currently in-service.
Setting name | Description |
---|---|
Default AVL unit attributes | |
Any new AVL units created under the current plugin
instance have the key and value pair defined here applied to them. Key and value pairs
can be used to provide additional information about specific vehicles in your
fleet. Example: If a transit agency has buses
from multiple manufacturers, it can be helpful for them to track that information
here.

Automatic AVL unit add and remove | |
Automatically add AVL units | When selected, AVL units are automatically created for new GPS units, saving time when adding vehicles to your fleet. |
Add AVL units to area | Select the area to which automatically created AVL units should be added. |
Default AVL unit for configuration | Select the AVL unit that acts as the default configuration template for automatically created AVL units. |
Specific AVL units for configuration | Add AVL units whose configurations are used as a template for an automatically
created AVL unit when the defined key and value pair is matched. If an automatically
created AVL unit does not have metadata with a matching key and value pair, the
default AVL unit configurations are applied. NOTE: These
configurations are an advanced feature that is not required for most use
cases.
|
Automatically remove AVL units | When selected, automatically added AVL units are removed when their associated GPS units are removed. |
Vehicle Monitoring plugin filter | Select a filter to create AVL units only for GPS units created in the selected plugin. This setting exists for use in systems containing multiple Security Center Vehicle Monitoring plugins. |
