Before you can monitor vehicles in Security Center, you must add AVL unit entities to the Security Center Fleet Monitoring plugin role.
Before you begin
- Download and install the Fleet Monitoring plugin.
- Add federated vehicle units to the system.
- Configure a default GIS map in Plan Manager.
- Add a GPS unit and configure a map area for this device.
What you should know
Procedure
- From the Config Tool homepage, open the Area view task.

Click Add an entity, select AVL
unit, and then enter an entity
Name.
Tip: For better search indexing, it is a best practice to include the vehicle type and identification number in the entity name.

Click the Properties tab.
- Optional:
If you want to associate the AVL unit with an Instrumented
area, click
.

If you want to associate the AVL unit with a GPS
unit, click
and select the GPS unit you require.
IMPORTANT: You must set the associated GPS unit for this AVL unit, and it must be the same GPS unit that is used for the GPS unit auto create feature. - Optional:
If you want to associate the AVL unit with an
Area, click
and select an area.
- Optional:
In the Type section, specify what type of
vehicle the AVL unit is associated with.
NOTE: If you need to change the size of the icon that represents this AVL unit on the map, select Custom. You must configure a custom icon in the Identity tab first.
- Optional: From the Label text color menu, select the color that AVL icon text is displayed in.
- Optional: From the Label background color menu, select the color that the AVL icon background is displayed in.
- Optional: If you selected the Custom icon type, you can show the entity type icon underneath a custom icon you have assigned to the AVL unit. To do this, activate the Custom icon show background setting.
- Optional: In the Custom icon preview section, adjust the Zoom parameter to configure the size the icon will be on the map.
- Optional: In the Metadata panel section, check the checkbox to use the default metadata panel for the vehicle type, or clear the checkbox and choose a different metadata panel type.
- Define speed thresholds.
- Define the tail history for the AVL unit.

To add an adornment to an AVL unit, go to the
Adornments section, click
Add (
), and configure the following:
- Position
- Choose a position for the adornment. There are five positions available.
- Value match rules
- Click Add (
), and define the following:

Key type: choose a Health, or
Regex (regular expression), or Text comparison.
- If you selected Health, define an entity type, health key, and value.
- If you selected Regex, or Text define a key for the value match rule.

Comparison type: choose a
Numeric, or Regex comparison.
- If you selected numeric, define a mathematical comparison and a value.
- If you selected Regex, enter a Regex value.
- If you selected Time, define a time period for use in the comparison.
- Adornment color (when match): Define a color that the adornment will display when a value match occurs.
). To delete a value match rule, click delete (
).

Key type: choose a Health, or
Regex (regular expression), or Text comparison.
- (Optional) Value match rule operator
- Define whether just one, or all of, your rules must be triggered for the adornment to be displayed.
- Show adornment (when no match)
- Enable this setting if you want the adornment to display a
color when a value match does not occur.
- Adornment color (when no match)
- Define a color that the adornment will display when a value match has not occurred.

Tip: You can specify multiple rule and color pairs for your adornments. Combine rules and colors to signify complex operational situations and events.
- In the GTFS identifier field, add a GTFS ID that will be recognized by the Fleet Monitoring plugin when the ID GTFS information
- Optional:
If you want to associate the AVL unit with an Instrumented
area, click

(Optional) Click the Data offload tab, and override
default plugin options for the AVL unit.
NOTE: It is recommended to set the Destination archiver at the AVL unit level.
- Click Apply.
