When auto lock or auto disconnect is activated, users are automatically locked out of Security Desk or Config Tool when no activity is detected from the user’s workstation. These features prevent intruders from accessing an unattended workstation.

Procedure

  1. From the Config Tool homepage, open the User management task.
  2. Select a user or user group from the entity browser and click the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Logon settings section, switch Inherit from parent to Override for the features you want to activate:
    Auto lock
Locks the user out of their Config Tool or Security Desk session after the set period of inactivity. Open tasks remain visible, however, the user must re-enter their password to resume their session.
    Auto disconnect
Locks the user out and closes their Config Tool or Security Desk session after the set period of inactivity.
  4. Switch their associated sliders to ON.
  5. Set the amount of time that a workstation needs to be inactive before locking or disconnecting.
Usually, a default value of five minutes is adequate.
Tip: If both options are turned on, the set period of inactivity for auto disconnect should be greater than the set period of inactivity for auto lock.
User management task in Config Tool, showing the Advanced page of a user with the Auto lock and Auto disconnect options set to ON.
  6. Click Apply.
