Keeping your system updated with the latest software does more than just provide access to new functionalities. It also protects your system against security threats, as the latest security patches are included in every release.

What you should know

The Genetec™ Update Service (GUS) is automatically installed with most Genetec™ products and enables you to update products when a new release becomes available. Internet access is required for GUS to work. Otherwise, Security Center can be manually updated by downloading the latest version from GTAP.

Procedure

To keep Security Center up to date with GUS:

  1. Implement a policy for verifying and deploying new updates related to OS and Security Center vulnerabilities.
Best Practice: Your policy should incorporate the use of GUS. Ideally, all Security Center machines should be enrolled in GUS. To learn more about what GUS can do you, see About the Genetec Update Service.
  2. Enroll all your Security Center machines in GUS.
Machines not enrolled in GUS must be kept up to date manually
  3. Stay informed about all system vulnerabilities as they are discovered.
Genetec Inc. closely monitors the latest news on system security and promptly publishes knowledge base articles (KBAs) to alert customers when new threats are identified. These KBAs often provide temporary solutions to mitigate threats while permanent solutions are being developed. We strongly recommend subscribing to KBA notifications, especially the ones related to security vulnerabilities, on our TechDoc Hub.
  4. Apply all security patches when they become available.
We provide permanent solutions to security vulnerabilities through patch releases and hotfixes. Our Security Updates articles inform customers about the availability of these patches. We strongly recommend subscribing to Security Updates notifications on our TechDoc Hub. For machines not enrolled in GUS, promptly apply the security patches and hotfixes when they become available.
