To maintain backward compatibility while upgrading Security Center 5.4, 5.5, or 5.6 to 5.10, you must follow a two-step upgrade process.
What you should know
Security Center
5.10.3.0 is compatible with the three previous major versions. A server or workstation that is
three major versions behind can connect to the 5.10.3.0 Directory,
but one that is four major versions behind cannot. To retain backward compatibility when
upgrading your system in stages, no part of Security Center can be more than three major versions
apart. For systems that are four to six major versions behind, upgrade in two steps to
maintain backward compatibility.
Procedure

Upgrade your system to the latest Security Center 5.7 release.
You need a temporary license and the latest
Security Center installation package. Ask one
of our representatives.
CAUTION:
There is a known issue in
Security Center 5.6 where the Archiver
might loose some ALPR images from the ALPR Manager. For this reason, if you
have an ALPR Manager in your system and you are upgrading from
Security Center 5.4 or later, upgrade to
Security Center 5.7 instead of
5.6 as your first step. If you are upgrading from
Security Center 5.3, after the upgrade to
5.6, continue immediately with the upgrade to 5.9 without turning your
system on. If you cannot afford the downtime to perform the two-step upgrade
back-to-back, contact

Upgrade your main server to Security Center 5.7.
Follow the upgrade instructions found in the Security Center Installation and
Upgrade Guide 5.7 SRx.

Turn your system on.
All servers and workstations that are not yet upgraded run in backward
compatibility mode. This is the first stage.

Upgrade the rest of your system (servers and workstations) to the
latest 5.7 release.
Your entire system runs in version 5.7. This is the second stage. You can split this step into as many
stages as needed, depending on the number of machines you need to
upgrade.
