Before you can monitor GPS units in Security Center, you must add them to the plugin role. You can add GPS unit entities to Security Center using Safety Vision.

Before you begin

  • Install Security Center on a vehicle server.
  • Install the Vehicle Monitoring plugin on a vehicle server.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the Safety Vision Windows app is running on the server and is accurately reading data.
  2. From the Config Tool home page, open the Area view task.
  3. Click Add an entity and select GPS unit.
  4. From the Model list, select Safety Vision, and then enter an entity Name.
Tip: For better search indexing, it is a best practice to include the vehicle type and identification number in the entity name.
  5. Click the Safety Vision tab.
The default location of the Safety Vision metadata file is automatically listed. If the install location has changed, navigate to the proper metadata location.
  6. Click the Properties tab, and then configure the following settings:
    Polling
Adjust the polling times for the unit.
    • Poll interval: Polling interval in seconds.
    • Stale location age: If the system does not receive location data for the GPS unit by the time indicated here, it considers the data to be stale.
NOTE: The system does not attempt to automatically offload data and video from a vehicle that has a stale location if the require recent location option is enabled.
    • Local system status check interval: interval after which a the local system is checked for issues. This system check collects the status of local archivers (as specified in a subsequent section) and cameras in the same area as the GPS unit and publishes the status of them along with the status of the GPS unit. The status is published using an event and as metadata key with value pairs. If correlation engine support is enabled, it is also published to the correlation engine.
    • To make cameras that are not recording show a fault state, check the Camera fault if not recording check box.
    Accelerometer
If you are using an accelerometer, select the unit model. Define any accelerometer thresholds and whether to receive events based on these thresholds.
    Display unit
If you are using an onboard LCD screen, select the unit model.
    Input/output device
Input or output for external sensors.
NOTE: If you define an input/output device, you must configure discrete inputs in the Inputs tab.
    Local archivers
Local archivers whose status is reported as part of the local system status check.
    WiFi
If you are using a WiFi adapter, select Monitor WiFi connection. You can choose to receive events when the GPS unit is connected or disconnected from WiFi, and set the intervals in seconds for verifying the unit's WiFi connection.
    Recent alarms
Define a time period after which alarms are no longer considered recent, and a maximum number of alarms that can be considered recent.
    Video overlay
Create a text overlay that is displayed over all video captured by cameras in the same area as the GPS unit. You can customize the text size, opacity, color, and position on the screen.
NOTE: Video overlay is only available if the GPS plugin Installation type is set to In-vehicle.
    Simulation
Activate this setting and enter GPS location data in a supported format to simulate the GPS location.
NOTE: This configuration is for demonstration or debugging purposes only.
    Data source
Enter the identifier for information coming from the data source you want to pull data from. This is a unique identifier that corresponds to this GPS unit in the data stream.
  7. (Optional) Click the Metadata tab and override the plugin defaults for the metadata configuration of the GPS unit.
    1. Click . The Add metadata configuration windows opens.
    2. Enter a Metadata key and Triggers.
    3. To raise a GPS metadata match event, bookmark video, or protect video when the system identifies a match for the metadata key and value pair you configured, select the associated check boxes. Metadata matches can also be tied to alarms, event-to-actions, incidents, and so on.
  8. Click Apply.
