Axis Zipstream technology reduces bandwidth and storage usage. You can configure your
Axis cameras in Security Center to take advantage of
Zipstream technology.
What you should know
Your Axis camera must support Zipstream technology and be running the appropriate firmware:
- Firmware 6.30 or later is required for Zipstream with dynamic frame rate.
Procedure
-
From the Video task in Config Tool, select the camera
to configure.
-
Click the Video tab.
-
Select a video stream tab at the bottom of the Video tab.
-
In the Video quality section, set the Bitrate
reduction strength value.
This value determines how much the video outside a region of interest will be
compressed to reduce bitrate and save bandwidth. For example, if you are surveying a
park that is surrounded by office buildings, the video footage of the surrounding
office buildings will have a lower bitrate to save on bandwidth.
-
(Optional) Enable Dynamic GOP (Group of Pictures) and set
the Max length.
The Dynamic GOP adjusts the number of P-frames that are
sent to the Archiver between two I-frames. Since the adjustments are based on the
amount of motion that occurs, the GOP length varies. Use the Max length
value to set the maximum amount of P-frames that will be sent. The higher
the Max length value, the lower the bitrate, which saves
bandwidth.
-
(Optional) Enable Dynamic FPS to have the frame rate
dynamically adjust based on motion. When there is little or no motion, the frame rate
drops automatically.
NOTE: This setting is only available for H.264 streams on units that support
Zipstream with dynamic frame rate.

Click Apply.
