Answer: You can use H.264 and MJPEG to stream video in Security Center Web Client .

For H.264 streaming, the browser must be configured to support H.264/avc3 in its media source extension. H.264 video stream are not transcoded, but are transmitted directly from the camera to the Web Client video player.

In the following cases, video switches from H.264 to MJPEG.

  • Controlling a PTZ camera.
  • Playing video in slow motion, rewind, or fast forward.

Consequently, the Media Gateway transcodes the video and transmits it to the video player.

The input stream to the Media Gateway is always H.264 at 15 FPS at different resolutions such as 320x240, 640x480, 1280x720 and 1920x1080.

When the Media Gateway transcodes the stream to MJPEG, the stream is at 8 FPS and an equal or lower resolution than the original stream.
