If you cannot see video during SIP video calls, or if the video is distorted, there might be a video profile incompatibility between the SIP endpoints participating in the communication.

What you should know

Sipelia™ Server performs the media transcoding if both parties use different codecs to stream their audio and video. However, even if a common codec is in use, an incompatibility between the video profiles of both parties might occur. A video profile is a set of parameters that represents the video stream that is sent from a given communication participant.

Procedure

  1. If your intercom unit uses the H.263 or H.263+ (1999) codecs and if Sipelia™ uses the .H264 codec, try to reconfigure the intercom unit to also use the H.264 codec.
NOTE: The highest matching preference is always chosen. For example, if both endpoints support H.264 and H.263, the connection is established using H.264. You can see the Security Desk video codec settings in Options > Sipelia in the Advanced section.
  2. If the problem is not resolved, try to use different video parameters on your intercom unit, for example, resolution, bitrate, and the frames per second ratio.
  3. If the problem is still not resolved, use a network protocol analyzer (for example, Wireshark) to verify that RTP (UDP) packets are exchanged between the two SIP endpoints.
    UDP port range
This is the port range for the User Diagram Protocol (UDP). The UDP ports are used by SIP clients to send and receive communication data. The default range for the Sipelia™ plugin and Security Desk is from 20000 to 20500. It is recommended that you keep the default settings. You should only change these settings if your network environment requires other values.
