If you are using your NAS volume for the first time or its write speed seems slow, you can format the NAS volume after backing up your video recordings.

Before you begin

Back up the video recordings that are currently stored on your NAS volume.

What you should know

Formatting a NAS volume only formats the volume, not the other volumes that might be on your NAS. For example, if you have installed a NAS and created four unique NAS volumes on this NAS, only the NAS volume you set to be formatted is formatted. The other NAS volumes are not affected.

You can only format a NAS volume that has a camera assigned to it. To format a NAS volume that is currently not being used by any of your cameras, refer to the product documentation that is provided with your NAS.

Tip: To maintain optimal performance, it is recommended to format your storage drive occasionally.

  1. Click Clients and then, from the Number of devices column, click the client account that the device is added to.
  2. On the client's Devices page, click the NAS volume that you want to format.
  3. In the Storage information section of the NAS volume's Edit page, click on the camera that is recording on the selected NAS volume.
Formatting a NAS volume permanently deletes the video recordings captured by all of the cameras whose recordings are being stored on the volume. Once deleted, the recordings cannot be recovered.
  4. In the Camera information section of the camera's Edit page, click Format NAS volume.
NOTE: The Format NAS volume button only appears for cameras that are recording onto a NAS volume.

The State field changes to Formatting camera storage and then to Enrolled, the Edge recording status field changes to NAS volume formatting, and a progress indicator is displayed throughout the formatting process. Once the formatting has been completed, the Edge recording status field changes to Ready.

If you experience issues when formatting, make sure that the NAS volume is online, restart your camera, and then try formatting again.
