Before you can use OSDP readers with Synergis™ IX controllers, you must associate the reader ports to the doors in Config Tool, and configure the readers in the Synergis™ IX Portal.

Procedure

  1. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, specify which port on the controller will use OSDP:
    1. Click Expanders > Reader Expanders > General.
    2. Select Genetec RS485 as the Port Network Type for the port you want to use for OSDP, and click Save ().
The following example shows Port 2 configured for OSDP:
Reader Expanders page in the Synergis™ IX Portal showing the configuration of an Onboard Reader with Genetec RS485 as the Port Network Type.
NOTE: The reader ports are listed as Wiegand, even if you set the network type to Genetec RS485 in the Synergis™ IX Portal.
Peripherals page of a Synergis™ Cloud Link unit in Config Tool showing the OSDP Reader ports of a Synergis™ IX unit as Wiegand.
  2. In the Config Tool Area view task, assign the new OSDP readers to a door from the door's Hardware page.
  3. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, navigate back to Expanders > Reader Expanders > General.
  4. In the Commands section, specify the following by entering the corresponding commands in separate lines:
Specify which reader port is using OSDP
    Port<Port Number> = 1
Example: Following the example where port 2 is configured for OSDP, the command is PortTwo = 1.
    Specify the baud rate
    OSDPBaudP<Port Number> = <Baud Rate>
If the baud rate is not specified using a command, the baud rate is 9600. The supported baud rates are 9600, 19200, and 38400.
Example: Following the example where port 2 is configured for OSDP, the command for a 38400 baud rate is OSDPBaudP2 = 38400.
    Specify OSDP Secure Mode
    Port<Port Number>SessionKey = <AES Encryption Key>

If the OSDP readers connected to the reader port are configured for Secure Channel Communication, you must specify a 128-bit hex AES key. You can generate a key using an online AES key generator.

Example: Following the example where port 2 is configured for OSDP Secure Mode, an example command is Port2SessionKey = 6A576E5A7134743777217A25432A462D.

For HID readers, you must use HID Reader Manager application to set the reader to OSDP V2 with Install Mode and Secure Mode enabled. Only reader power pins should be connected while performing the following steps:

    1. In the app, select the reader, and click Detailed Configuration.
    2. Select the communication protocol.
    3. On the Host Protocol page, turn on the OSDP option, set the Spec Compliance to V2, and turn on Install Mode and Secure Mode.
    4. Enter the reader's Address. A value of 0 specifies that the reader is on the Entry side and a value of 1 specifies that the reader is on the Exit side.
    5. Save the settings.
  5. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, click Save ().
  6. Connect the data and power wires of the readers to the Synergis™ IX controller.
  7. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, configure the Onboard Reader used for OSDP:
    1. Click Expanders > Reader Expanders > Reader.
Following the example where port 2 is configured for OSDP, the Reader page is Reader 2.
    2. Select the Reader Format, and the Reader Door.
NOTE: For the standard 26-bit format, select HID 26/34 Bit option. The Reader Format is automatically configured as Custom Credential.

  8. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, create a Smart Reader for each OSDP reader:
    1. Click Expanders > Smart Readers > General, and then click Add ().
    2. Configure the following:
      Name
Enter a name for the Smart Reader.
      Expander Address
If you are using a reader port on the controller, the address is 1. Readers connected to the controller though expanders start at address 2.
      Expander Port
Enter the port you connected the readers to.
      Configured Address
The reader's address (0 for Entry and 1 for Exit) plus 1.
Example: The Configured Address for the Entry reader is 1 because the reader's address must be 0 for Entry, plus 1.

    3. Click Save ().
  9. In the Synergis™ IX Portal, configure the Smart Readers:
    1. Click Expanders > Smart Readers > Reader, and then configure the following:
      Reader Format
Select the same format you configured for the Onboard Reader.
NOTE: When using OSDP readers with 64-bit credentials, select Custom Credential.
      Reader Location
Specify whether the reader is for Entry or Exit.
      Reader Door
Assign the Smart Readers to the same door you assigned to the Onboard Reader.
NOTE: A warning is displayed saying the door is already assigned to a reader. You can ignore it.

    2. Click Save ().
