To control the areas a cardholder can arm or disarm from a keypad, you can create an area group in the Synergis™ IX Portal and associate it to the keypad.

What you should know

If a cardholder arms or disarms an area group, but only has access to some of the areas in that area group, only the areas they have access to are armed or disarmed.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Synergis IX controller.
  2. Create an area group that contains all the areas that must be armed:
    1. Click Programming > Area Groups, and then click Add ().
    2. Enter a name for the area group.
    3. Click the Areas tab, and click Add.
    4. In the Areas dialog box, select the areas to add to the area group, and then click OK.
    5. Click Save ().
  3. Configure the area group and menu group for the keypad:
    1. Click Expanders > Keypads > Configuration.
    2. From the Menu Group for this Keypad list, select User Menu Group.
    3. From the Area Group for this Keypad list, select the area group you created.
    4. Click Save ().
  4. Configure the menu group associated with the keypad to allow area group control:
    1. Click Programming > Menu Groups > General.
    2. In the User Menu Group settings, select the Area Group Control Allowed option.
This option allows the cardholder to access the area group control screen from the area status screen.
    3. Click Save ().
  5. (Optional) Configure the menu group associated with the keypad to skip the greeting upon entering their code on an LCD user station.
    1. Click Programming > Menu Groups.
    2. Select the menu group associated with the keypad and select Options.
    3. Disable the Show User Greeting option.
    4. Click Save ().

Results

The area group is configured. Cardholders with the correct access rules now can arm or disarm the area group from the keypad by entering their PIN, scrolling through the options on the display with the bottom-right arrow key, and pressing the Arm or Disarm key.
