Before you can schedule automatic backups for your Synergis™ IX controllers, you must specify where to save the backup files, how many backup files you want to keep for each controller, and which controllers to back up.

Before you begin

Ensure that the Synergis IX controllers that you want to back up are online.

What you should know

The Intrusion Manager role runs the scheduled backups. Therefore, the folder where you save the scheduled backups must be accessible from the server running the Intrusion Manager role. You can create this folder on a network drive. To ensure that the Scheduled backup folder is accessible from the server hosting the Intrusion Manager role, run Config Tool on that server.

Procedure

  1. On the server hosting the Intrusion Manager role, open Config Tool.
  2. From the Config Tool homepage, open the Synergis™ IX backup task.
  3. In the Scheduled backup folder field, enter the folder path where you want your scheduled backups to be saved, or click to browse for the folder.
    CAUTION:
Specify the Scheduled backup folder from the perspective of the service user running the Intrusion Manager role. What you can access from Config Tool might be different from what the service user can access.
  4. In the Backups per controller field, enter the maximum number of automatic backups that you want to keep for each controller. The value must be from 2 to 100.
For example, if you configure a value of 2, each folder contains the last two automatic backup files and a new automatic backup file overwrite the oldest.
  5. Add the Synergis IX controllers that you want to back up:
    1. Under the list of selected Synergis IX controllers, click Add a controller to the list ().
    2. In the Add controller dialog box, enter the controller's IP address, user name, and password.
    3. Click Add.
    4. Add other controllers as needed.
To edit a controller in the list, double-click it, or select it and click Edit selected controller ().
To delete a controller from the list, single-click to select it and click Remove selected controllers from the list ().
  6. Click Apply.

Results

The controllers to be backed up are listed in the Synergis™ IX backup task. These controllers can be backed up manually or automatically.
