Upgrading firmware on one Mercury LP or EP controller and its downstream panels

If you are using a Security Center version earlier than 5.10 and want to upgrade your Mercury LP or EP controllers and their downstream panels only one controller at a time, you can do so from the legacy portal of the Synergis™ unit.

What you should know

Depending on your Security Center version, there are different ways to upgrade Mercury controller firmware.
Upgrading the Mercury controllers and their downstream panels
Upgrading Mercury controllers only
  • You can upgrade the firmware of all the controllers under the same Synergis™ Cloud Link appliance at the same time in the Synergis™ Appliance Portal.

For more information, see Upgrading interface module firmware through the Synergis™ Appliance Portal.

  • In Security Center 5.9, you cannot upgrade the firmware of Mercury controllers in Config Tool.
  • In Security Center 5.8, you can upgrade the firmware of all Mercury controllers under the same Synergis™ Cloud Link appliance at the same time in the Config Tool Hardware inventory task.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Synergis™ Appliance Portal, and upload the Mercury firmware onto the Synergis™ unit, but do not push the firmware to the Mercury controller.
  2. Log on to the Synergis™ unit through the legacy portal, using the following URL:
    https://SCL IP/smc/index.html

SCL IP is the IP address of the Synergis™ unit.

  3. Click Tools > Advanced > Mercury EP device tools > Bus firmware versions.
  4. Find the EP or LP controller you want to upgrade in the list.
The controller is listed with its IP address and its current firmware version.
  5. On the next line, click the Upgrade to version X link.
Example: In the following example, you are upgrading an Mercury EP1502 controller to firmware version 1.27.5.
The upgrade starts. The upgrade process can take up to 20 minutes, depending on the intelligent controller model and your network connection.
  6. Upgrade the firmware on each downstream panel attached to the controller.
IMPORTANT: Only upgrade one downstream panel at a time. During the upgrade, do not power cycle the EP or LP controller or disconnect the RS-485 connection between the controller and the panel.
    1. On the Bus firmware versions page of the Synergis™ unit web page, find the downstream panel to upgrade.
      • If the panel is connected to the controller using a RS-485 bus, it is listed by its physical address and its current firmware version.
      • If the panel is connected to the controller through the network, it is listed by its IP address and its current firmware version.
    2. On the next line, click the Upgrade to version X link.
The upgrade starts. The upgrade process can take up to 20 minutes, depending on the downstream panel model and your network connection.
