Why did I receive a multi-factor authentication (MFA) code by email even though I opted for MFA by SMS?

Answer: To verify your identity is still valid, a multi-factor authentication (MFA) code is periodically sent to the email that was used to enroll your account.

MFA by email

MFA by email is an additional security measure to ensure the ongoing validity of your identity. We periodically confirm that you still have access to the email used during the initial credentials setup. For example, to ensure that the original account owner hasn't left the company. After verifying your identity, future authentications will use the MFA by SMS process.

This additional security measure only applies to Genetec-managed sign-ins:
  • Genetec Clearance™
  • Genetec ClearID™
  • Genetec Cloudrunner™
  • Genetec Developer Hub
  • Genetec Portal
  • Genetec Technical Assistance Portal (GTAP)
  • Operations Center
  • Security Center SaaS
Tip: MFA options can be managed using your Genetec Login profile.

Corporate single sign-on integration

An alternative to MFA by email is to set up a corporate single sign-on (SSO) integration. By using this integration, your IT department can control the identity life cycle, MFA requirements, and password complexity rules.

The following corporate SSO authentication methods are supported:
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • OpenID Connect (OIDC)

For more information about corporate SSO integration, contact Genetec™ Technical Assistance Center (GTAC).
