[KBA-79133] Upgrading access control unit firmware from Config Tool causes the Access Manager role to restart or Hardware inventory task to close

Upgrading the firmware for access control units from Config Tool fails, and one or both of the following issues occur:

  • The Access Manager role stops and restarts every few minutes.
  • The Hardware inventory task shows an exception error and closes.

Applies to

Security Center systems with the following scenarios:

Scenario 1
  • Main server is running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later
  • Access Manager expansion server is running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0
  • Firmware upgrade is done from either machine or from a workstation.
Scenario 2
  • Main server is running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0
  • Access Manager expansion server is running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later
  • Firmware upgrade is done from either machine or from a workstation.
Scenario 3
  • Access Manager role is on the main server running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later
  • Firmware upgrade is done on a workstation running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0.
Scenario 4
  • Access Manager role is on the main server running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0
  • Firmware upgrade is done on a workstation running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later.
Scenario 5
  • Both the main server and Access Manager expansion server are running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later
  • Firmware upgrade is done on a workstation running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0.
Scenario 6
  • Both the main server and Access Manager expansion server are running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0
  • Firmware upgrade is done on a workstation running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later.

Cause

A coding issue.

Workaround

Do one of the following:
  • Update the firmware for the access control units from the manufacturer’s website.
  • If you prefer updating the firmware from Config Tool, do one of the following:
    • Ensure that the servers hosting the Directory and Access Manager role, and any workstation performing the firmware upgrade for the access control units, are all running Security Center 5.10.4.0 or later.
    • Ensure that the servers hosting the Directory and Access Manager role, and any workstation performing the firmware upgrade for the access control units, are all running a Security Center version earlier than 5.10.4.0.
